💡 Accountant's Note

Reconnection fees are recognized immediately on reactivation since the performance obligation is the restoration of service — a point-in-time event.

Practitioner & Systems Framework

💻 ERP Architecture

Reconnection fees are configured in the CBS as a one-time charge applied when a suspended account is reactivated. Suspension may be due to non-payment (involuntary) or customer request (voluntary). The CBS posts the fee to the subscriber's account and the revenue is recognised immediately. For non-payment suspensions, the reconnection fee is collected along with any outstanding arrears before service is restored. The reconnection event is logged in the CBS with a timestamp for audit trail purposes.

⚠️ Audit Flags

Auditors confirm that reconnection fees are only charged where permitted by the subscriber agreement and TRC regulations. Test that revenue is recognised at the reconnection event date. Confirm that the CBS prevents reactivation without payment of the reconnection fee and outstanding arrears. Review whether the reconnection fee rate is appropriate given the administrative cost — an excessively high fee relative to cost may attract regulatory scrutiny.

📄 Required Documentation

Subscriber agreement extract on reconnection terms, CBS suspension and reactivation log, fee rate schedule, TRC regulatory compliance confirmation, revenue posting at reactivation, and collection of arrears confirmation.
