💡 Accountant's Note
Managed services contracts bundle connectivity, hardware, security monitoring, and helpdesk support. Under IFRS 15, each distinct performance obligation is assessed separately. Long-term contracts may have material contract modifications.
Practitioner & Systems Framework
💻 ERP Architecture
Enterprise managed services contracts are complex, multi-year arrangements with multiple performance obligations (connectivity, CPE hardware, security monitoring, managed helpdesk, SLA credits). The revenue accounting system (SAP RAR or Zuora) identifies and allocates the transaction price to each performance obligation based on SSPs. Connectivity and services are recognised monthly; CPE hardware is recognised on delivery. SLA penalty credits (variable consideration) are estimated using the expected value method and constrained to avoid revenue reversal. Enterprise contracts are managed in the CRM and ERP with dedicated project codes.
⚠️ Audit Flags
Auditors perform a detailed IFRS 15 performance obligation identification for large enterprise contracts. Test the SSP determination for each bundled element. Assess the constraint on variable consideration (SLA credits) — are the estimates reasonable? Review contract modifications for large accounts — enterprise customers frequently renegotiate terms, and each modification requires an IFRS 15 reassessment. Confirm that customer-specific customisation costs are assessed for capitalisation as contract fulfilment costs.
