Sukuk Periodic Profit Payment Received
Receiving a semi-annual profit payment (equivalent to a coupon) on a held Sukuk investment.
| Account Name | Type | Debit ($) | Credit ($) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cash / Nostro Account | Asset (+) | 125,000.00 | - |
| Accrued Profit Receivable (Sukuk) | Asset (−) | - | 125,000.00 |
💡 Accountant's Note
Sukuk periodic profit payments are the Shariah-compliant equivalent of bond coupon payments. The accrued profit receivable (recognized monthly via EIR) is cleared when cash is received. The income line is labeled 'Sukuk Profit Income' rather than 'Interest Income'.
Practitioner & Systems Framework
💻 ERP Architecture
In Oracle FLEXCUBE Islamic SM module, Sukuk profit accrual is automated using the agreed profit rate. Payment notification comes from the Sukuk issuer's trustee and is matched to the accrued receivable in the system. WHT (if applicable) is deducted by the issuer before payment.
⚠️ Audit Flags
Auditors reconcile received profit payments to the accrued receivable. Late profit payments from distressed Sukuk issuers trigger IFRS 9 staging assessment. For Ijara Sukuk, auditors verify the underlying asset generating the rental income exists and is properly maintained.
📄 Required Documentation
Sukuk trustee payment advice, accrued profit reconciliation, WHT deduction confirmation (if any), and updated Sukuk holding schedule.
