Credit Card Over-Limit Fee Charged
Charging a fee when a cardholder exceeds their approved credit limit.
| Account Name | Type | Debit ($) | Credit ($) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Credit Card Receivable (Cardholder) | Asset (+) | 15.00 | - |
| Credit Card Over-Limit Fee Income | Revenue (+) | - | 15.00 |
💡 Accountant's Note
Over-limit fees are recognized when charged. They are included in the cardholder's outstanding balance and accrue interest if not paid within the grace period. CBJ consumer protection rules require these fees to be disclosed in the card agreement.
Practitioner & Systems Framework
💻 ERP Architecture
CMS automatically detects and applies over-limit fees per the product definition. The fee is added to the outstanding balance immediately. Some CMS systems allow blocking transactions that would exceed the limit — the bank's policy determines whether over-limit spending is permitted.
⚠️ Audit Flags
Auditors verify that over-limit fees are disclosed in the credit card agreement and comply with CBJ fee caps. Repeated over-limit situations without corrective action (credit limit increase or mandatory reduction) suggest inadequate credit monitoring.
📄 Required Documentation
Card agreement with fee schedule, CMS over-limit event log, fee billing confirmation, and CBJ fee cap compliance report.
