💡 Accountant's Note

Cashback rewards are a cost of the card program. Under IFRS 15, they represent a reduction in transaction price (variable consideration) or a loyalty point liability. The bank accrues the expected cashback based on eligible spend patterns.

Practitioner & Systems Framework

💻 ERP Architecture

Cashback calculations are handled in the CMS's loyalty/rewards module. Monthly accruals are posted to the GL via the CMS-GL interface. Cashback is typically credited to the cardholder's statement balance quarterly or annually. The accrual rate must match the card product's cashback percentage.

⚠️ Audit Flags

Auditors test the accrual rate against the card product agreement. Underaccrual understates the liability and overstates profit. Unclaimed cashback that expires must be assessed for breakage revenue recognition under IFRS 15.

📄 Required Documentation
