💡 Accountant's Note

Jordanian labor law requires EOSB provisioning for all permanent staff. For professional firms with high staff turnover (especially associates), careful EOSB tracking prevents unexpected costs when employees depart.

Practitioner & Systems Framework

💻 ERP Architecture

The EOSB provision for each employee is: (monthly salary ÷ 12) × years of service — accrued incrementally each month. The HR system should automatically compute and feed the EOSB accrual to the ERP payroll module. When an employee departs, the provision is settled: Dr Provision for EOSB / Cr Cash (for the actual payout). Any difference between the provision and actual payout (due to salary changes not immediately captured in the provision) is a past service cost adjustment in P&L. For professional services firms with high associate turnover rates (2–4 years average tenure), the EOSB provision tends to be relatively modest per head but significant in aggregate due to headcount volume. Flag the provision balance for impairment if an employee is unlikely to reach the vesting period.

⚠️ Audit Flags

(1) Salary change updates — when an employee receives a salary increase, the EOSB provision rate must be updated immediately (past service cost). Delaying the rate update understates the provision. (2) Provision adequacy — compare the provision balance per employee to the actual entitlement calculated independently: does the provision equal (current monthly salary ÷ 12) × total years of service? (3) Departures during the year — confirm that all EOSB provisions for departed employees were settled and cleared, with the difference (if any) recognized in P&L.

📄 Required Documentation

HR records (hire date, current monthly salary, service continuity), EOSB calculation schedule per employee, provision rollforward, payment records for departed employees, and labor law reference confirming current EOSB formula.
