💡 Accountant's Note
Member firms of global professional networks pay affiliation fees (typically a percentage of revenue) for the right to use the brand, share methodologies, and access referrals. This is a recurring overhead expense.
Practitioner & Systems Framework
💻 ERP Architecture
Network fees are typically calculated as a percentage of the member firm's gross revenue (e.g., 2–5% of annual professional fee revenue for Big Four affiliates). Code the expense to a specific Network Fees account within overhead so that the true all-in cost of maintaining the network affiliation can be benchmarked against the business development benefit (referral income received, brand premium on fees). The fee is usually invoiced by the network quarterly or annually and should be accrued monthly based on the percentage formula applied to the current month's revenue. If the fee agreement includes minimum annual commitments, the monthly accrual should be the higher of the revenue-based calculation and the prorated minimum.
⚠️ Audit Flags
(1) Revenue base accuracy — is the percentage fee calculated on the correct revenue base as defined in the network agreement? Some agreements exclude certain revenue types (government grants, disbursement recoveries, etc.). (2) Transfer pricing — for member firms that are subsidiaries of a global network entity, the network fee is a related-party transaction requiring arm's-length pricing documentation. (3) WHT on cross-border network fees — payments to a non-resident network entity may be subject to WHT in Jordan (typically 7–10% on management fees under tax treaties); ensure proper WHT deduction and remittance.
📄 Required Documentation
Network affiliation agreement (fee formula, minimum, payment terms), revenue base calculation, monthly accrual workings, network invoice, WHT deduction and remittance records, and related-party transfer pricing documentation.
