In the agency model (Booking.com, Agoda agency), the guest pays the hotel at check-in; the hotel subsequently pays the OTA a commission invoice (typically monthly or bi-monthly). Accrue the commission expense at month-end based on room revenue from agency-model bookings × OTA commission rate. When the OTA invoice arrives, reverse the accrual and post the actual. Maintain an OTA production report per channel to support the commission accrual calculation.

Auditors test the commission accrual against subsequent OTA invoices — consistent under-accrual overstates monthly GOP. They also verify the OTA commission rate is consistent with the current rate agreement (commission rates may change periodically).
