Practitioner & Systems Framework

💻 ERP Architecture

Exhibition space rental is typically pre-paid cash as it is often booked by external vendors (not corporate accounts with credit facilities). Recognize as Other Operating Revenue (or under Other Operated Departments in USALI) — separate from MICE Room Rental as it is non-traditional space with different pricing logic. For regular trade shows or exhibitions hosted in the hotel, consider whether the hotel is acting as organizer (principal) or just providing venue (agent). If principal, recognize gross revenue and gross cost of organizing the exhibition.

⚠️ Audit Flags

Auditors check that exhibition space rental is recognized on the exhibition date (not at booking). For multi-day exhibitions, recognize ratably over the exhibition period. If the hotel provides additional services with the booth rental (furniture, electricity, cleaning), assess whether these are separate performance obligations under IFRS 15 requiring separate recognition.

📄 Required Documentation

Exhibition booth rental agreement, payment receipt, exhibition date confirmation, Other Operating Revenue entry, any additional services provided and billed, and IFRS 15 performance obligation assessment.
