💡 Accountant's Note

Under IFRS 15, if points have a standalone value, you cannot recognize the full revenue at time of sale. The points portion is deferred as a liability until redeemed or expired.

Practitioner & Systems Framework

💻 ERP Architecture

Configure the loyalty program to calculate the standalone value of points earned on each transaction (e.g., 1 point = JOD 0.05 redeemable value). The POS or loyalty platform should split the transaction accordingly and feed the deferral amount to the GL automatically. Review the Loyalty Points Liability balance monthly — rapid growth indicates points are being earned faster than redeemed, which is normal but must be tracked for breakage analysis.

⚠️ Audit Flags

IFRS 15 requires a 'relative standalone selling price' allocation when multiple performance obligations exist (the meal + the future points discount). Auditors will test whether the deferral amount is reasonable based on historical redemption rates and point values. A 'lazy' approach of recognizing 100% of revenue immediately without deferral is a misstatement if the loyalty points have material value.
