💡 Accountant's Note
When loyalty points are redeemed, the corresponding deferred revenue is released to revenue. The revenue recognized equals the SSP previously deferred for those specific points. If customers redeem points for free items, the revenue recognized upon redemption offsets the COGS of the free item provided. The net effect is that the profitability of the 'free' item to the franchisee is covered by the previously deferred revenue.
