How to Process Plant Cost Transfers Between Projects

Moving an owned excavator from Project A to Project B mid-contract.

Account NameTypeDebit ($)Credit ($)
WIP — Project B (Plant Charge)Asset (+)8,000.00-
WIP — Project A (Plant Credit)Asset (-)-8,000.00

💡 Accountant's Note

Plant transfers are an internal recharge between projects. The sending project is credited and the receiving project is charged based on an agreed internal hire rate for the period of use.

Practitioner & Systems Framework

💻 ERP Architecture

Use the ERP Equipment Management module to log equipment location transfers. The system automatically calculates the internal recharge (days on site × internal rate) and generates the journal transferring costs between project ledgers.

⚠️ Audit Flags

Transfer pricing between jobs. Ensure internal hire rates cover depreciation and maintenance but do not contain artificial profit margins, as this would inflate total WIP assets.

📄 Required Documentation

Equipment transfer note (signed by both project managers), internal hire rate schedule, and ERP location log.
